Today we are saying hello to a fresh start and a brand new year! Starting a new year is always so motivating because it’s like starting a new chapter in our book of life. We take the good and bad from the year before and learn from our mistakes to better ourselves in the year to come. This upcoming new year has felt a little different for me because I feel in the last few months I have really had the time to figure out what I want for the future and how to accomplish those goals.
On our trip back to Texas after Christmas vacation, TJ and I took some time out of our nine hour drive to discuss our goals for 2018 and how we want to accomplish them. One of those being sharing more of my personal life and being more open with my readers here on my little corner of the internet. So to start off this year with a bang, I’m sharing a few of my goals for 2018 with y’all and I would love to hear some of your if you’d like to share!
– BE MORE PREPARED
The Holidays always remind me of how unprepared I am and how I had high hopes of not procrastinating but it never seems to happen. Well not this year! One thing I asked for from Santa was a wall (or desk) calendar so I could write out EVERYTHING. From birthdays, blog posts, sales, and holidays, I wanted something that was big and in front of my face so I wouldn’t miss it and would know to constantly check it. My goal is to be well prepared this year so I am less stressed out and won’t have as many things pop up last minute. This is also a great way to help you save money because if you know you need to start Christmas shopping in October, you won’t blow your whole bank account in December trying to buy everything last minute.
– DON’T COMPLAIN & BE MORE APPRECIATIVE
For me, this is more so in terms of TJ and I’s relationship but it can really factor into any part of life. Now this is not to say that I was not already appreciative of all TJ does for our family, I just want to show my appreciation more often. After living with someone for quite a while, you get comfortable. Sometimes we don’t think about it or hear ourselves complain but it happens. My biggest fault is my OCD’ness with keeping our home clean. Just like anyone else, my version of clean and TJ’s version of clean are completely different. So when I see a cup sitting out on the table, my first reaction is to snatch it up, get irritated, and complain how he never cleans (gah get it together Julie!). This year I want to really focus on not letting those little things bother me and to instead show my appreciation and recognize all that TJ does for us.
– READ 1 NEW BOOK A MONTH
I picked up reading again a few months ago and really enjoy it. It’s a great way to escape from social media, the TV, or just the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is also a way to better yourself and sharpen up those reading/writing/grammar skills. My favorite way to decompress is with a book, bubble bath, and a glass of wine at night. If y’all have any good book recommendations I’d love to hear them and I will be sharing my favorites in a blog post coming soon!
– SAVE THE CHORES FOR THE WEEKEND
Since I love cleaning so much, I tend to start cleaning on thing and end up spending the whole day doing that instead of working or being productive with things that need to get done during the work week. Thus, I’m turning my head and saving the chores for the weekend (unless it’s a cleaning emergency of course).
– EXPLORE MORE OF HOUSTON
Almost two and a half years ago, TJ and I took on a new adventure and moved to Houston. Some of our favorite things to do is to find new restaurants and explore new areas of the city, so our goal for 2018 is to do just that! Sometimes we get caught up in our everyday routine and forget to explore this big amazing city, so this year we are planning to explore every nook and cranny we can find. One way we like to do this is by trying a new restaurant each week. I’m hoping to share more posts on things to do in Houston with you all too so keep a lookout for those posts to come!
– DON’T TELL YOURSELF NO
One thing that I do more often than I’d like to admit is doubt myself in doing something before I even try to do it. An example of this would be cooking, and it could be because i’ve had more bad experiences than good when it comes to mastering the kitchen but I just have to get up and try again right?! This year I am not going to get it in my head that I can’t do something before I even try. You can do anything you want to do if you just put your mind to it, so don’t tear yourself down before attempting it because hey, you never know what you might be good at!
I’d love to hear some of your goals and aspirations for 2018 and hope we all have the best year yet!
Happy New Year!
